Estonia will continue to upgrade the border with Russia despite a sharp rise in cost of work
Estonia will continue to reinforce the border with Russia, despite the fact that the cost of work has more than doubled, as stated by the Prime Minister of Estonia, Jüri Ratas, according to ERR news outlet.
Ratas said that the cost of the construction along the eastern border was 79 million euros in 2015, but now, after the completion of the design work, it turns out that it will cost two and a half or even three times more.
“This, of course, does not mean that the construction on the eastern border will stop. I believe that the construction along the border must continue,” Ratas said.
The Prime Minister noted that the total length of the border is 338 kilometers, of which 135 kilometers are on land, 126 kilometers across lakes, 176 kilometers along rivers.
“At the moment, it can be said that the cost of reinforcing the border on land, which has the greatest total length, has increased,” said Ratas. “It should also be noted that this is the design phase, and when the time comes to procure the materials, the cost may be adjusted.”
Ratas explained that the cost of the border construction will be more than the original estimate, which was about 40 million euros.
