Construction of NATO base in Estonia completed
In the Estonian military town of Tapa, the construction of a large defensive complex for the deployment of a NATO battalion group has been completed, Postimees.ee reports.
“The complex [at the NATO military base in Tapa] will be ceremonially opened by Defense Minister Jüri Luik together with representatives of the Estonian Defense Forces and representatives of [our] allies. The complex includes 20 buildings, including three barracks, a cafeteria, training facilities and auxiliary buildings. The complex’s area is about 38000 square meters,” the report states.
The new barracks are built on the basis of modern requirements, taking into account the needs of modern soldiers. Each one contains 300 beds and 30 work stations. One of them has amenities and training facilities, as well as rooms to store and maintain equipment.
The cafeteria takes up 5500 square meters and is one of the biggest in the Baltic states. It can feed 3200 people per day.
The construction cost €43 million. Aside from the soldiers of the First Infantry Brigade of the Estonian Armed Forces, a NATO combat battalion of 1200 persons will also be stationed at the base in Tapa. The NATO group will include soldiers and officers from Great Britain and France.
