Russian-backed militants shell residential area
A group of militants disguised as Ukrainian ATO (Anti-Terrorist Operation) fighters shelled residential areas in the Zaytsevo region, reported the ATO press center. The attackers appeared to be one of the pro-Russian, illegal armed groups poorly disguised as Ukrainian servicemen. ATO: Attack on OSCE near Kominternovo was a provocation
The OSCE Special Monitoring Mission (SMM) came under fire on Sunday near the village of Kominternovo. 3.5 kilometers west of the village, six SMM members were investigating three craters when they heard three single shots of small arms fire from about 150 meters away.
According to an OSCE report, “the SMM left the area immediately. On its way to its vehicles, the SMM heard a burst of small-arms fire originating from the same location.” None of the observers were injured in the incident.

OSCE Observers Fired upon near Kominternovo
Members of a special OSCE monitoring mission in Ukraine were fired upon near the settlement of Kominternovo in the Volnovakhsky district of the Donetsk region, as reported by the Press Service of the SMM on Sunday evening.
The incident occurred on Sunday, December 27th, at around 11:20. The observers’ cars came under fire by small arms munitions and were forced to return to the separatist-controlled Donetsk region. No members of the mission were injured in the attack.

Soldier Killed and Three Others Injured In Eastern Ukraine
A Ukrainian soldier was killed while three others were injured in the latest conflict in the Anti-Terrorist Operations zone. This was reported at a press briefing on Sunday by the representative of the Presidential Administration of Ukraine concerning the ATO, Colonel Alexander Motuzyanik.
Militants opened fire on positions of the ATO forces 66 times. Near Zaitsev in particular, weapons prohibited by the Minsk Agreement were used for shelling ATO positions, resulting in one civilian death.

Poroshenko awards 300 medals to Ukrainian servicemen
Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko recognized soldiers who demonstrated heroism, courage and professionalism during combat missions in the Donbas region, the president’s press service reported. Of the 300 medals given by Poroshenko, 22 were awarded posthumously.
Of those honored 282 were members of the Armed Forces of Ukraine (including 22 killed and 51 wounded), 17 were members of the National Guard, and one was a serviceman of the State Border Service.

The Special Monitoring Mission (SMM) of the OSCE said that armed members of the so-called Donetsk People’s Republic did not allow observers to go past the main street of the village of Kominternove during the mission’s investigation on Thursday.

Ukrainian Ambassador: UN needs to address conflict in Ukraine
According to Ukraine’s Ambassador to the United Nations, Volodymyr Yelchenko, the UN has done very little to solve the Ukrainian conflict. Russians who fought in Donbass want veteran status
The "Donbass Volunteers Union" hopes that during the next session of the Russian State Duma their members will be granted the status of combat veterans, reports TASS.
