US imposes additional sanctions against Ukrainian airline

The US has announced the introduction of additional sanctions against DART Airlines, registered in Kyiv, as part of a package of restrictions against Iran and third countries related to Tehran's illegal activities.

This is included in an official statement by the US Department of Treasury’s Office of Foreign Assets Control (OFAC), Ukrinform reports.

The company is listed under different names in the sanctions list, including DART Airlines, DART Aircompany, DART Ukrainian Airlines, DART LLC, and ALANNA. All these names are associated with a single legal registration in Kyiv.

The company also cooperated with another air carrier, Caspian Airlines, and thus became subject to additional sanctions.

In September 2017, the US imposed economic sanctions against DART Airlines and Khors Air. The US Treasury Department suspected that Dart Airlines and Khors Air were providing assistance to Iranian and Iraqi airlines already under the sanctions by providing them with aircraft, crews and services.

In April, it was reported that the State Air Service will begin investigating claims set forth in an earlier Reuters report on the transportation of Russian mercenaries between Damascus and Rostov-on-Don by Syrian airline Cham Wings. In particular, the Service will look into the involvement of DART Airlines and Khors Air, which are registered in Ukraine.
