Ukrainian court gives four years to National Guard employee recruited by Russia

The Solomianskyi District Court of Kyiv has found a National Guard technician-operator who transmitted classified information to Russia guilty of high treason, and has sentenced her to 4 years in prison, reported the press service of the Security Services of Ukraine (SBU).

"This woman visited her sister in the Russian Federation in the summer of 2016. During the time of her visit, she was recruited by Russian Special Services. She even had had two pseudonyms, as she has affirmed; they were ‘45th’ and ‘Nevsky’. She signed [her] reports with male pseudonyms to hide that she is a woman," said Vasyl Hrytsak, Head of the SBU, last fall.

After the officer’s recruitment, Russian Special Services assigned certain reconnaissance tasks to her, developed methods for transmitting the information via electronic communication channels, and conducted trainings on compliance with conspiracy measures. For an emergency connection with her curators, the officer was given an e-mail address and a Russian mobile operator number.

Law enforcement detained the spy in October of last year.

During the pre-trial investigation, the woman expressed remorse and fully cooperated with the investigation.
