Ukraine received 400 lawsuits after nationalization of Privatbank

More than 400 lawsuits have been filed since the nationalization of Privatbank against the National Bank (NBU), the Ministry of Finance and Privatbank itself, as mentioned at a briefing by Deputy Head of the NBU, Kateryna Rozhkova.

"Today we have more than 400 lawsuits against the NBU, Privatbank and the Ministry of Finance, all of which are connected to the process of nationalization in one way or another. Such a large number of lawsuits indicate a frank reluctance by former owners of Privatbank to restructure and repay [their] debts, despite promises and letters that were directed to both the NBU and the Prime Minister," she said.

Rozhkova believes that such a number of lawsuits have been filed in order to destabilize the work of the NBU, Privatbank and the Ministry of Finance, which are working towards debt repayment.

She also separately noted a lawsuit by the former owner of Privatbank, Ihor Kolomoyskyi, against conducting a forensic audit. "Regarding this separate claim, my personal opinion is that it is a manifestation of weakness and fear that the results of cooperation with Kroll and AlixPartners will be very unpleasant for former shareholders," the Deputy Head of the NBU said.

Finance Minister Oleksandr Danylyuk believes that litigation with former owners of Privatbank Ihor Kolomoyskyi and Gennadiy Bogolyubov will take years.
