Ukraine creates military medical directorate

The General Staff of the Ukrainian Armed Forces has created a single body for controlling medical support, the Defense Ministry’s website reported.

“The primary goal of the creation of the new structure is to establish an effective system of medical support in accordance with the requirements of the Ukrainian Armed Forces and NATO standards. The central military medical department of the Ministry of Defense is in the process of disbanding,” the report states.

The Main Military Medicine Directorate is a military administration body whose purpose is to organize the   medical support of the Ukrainian Armed Forces, manage the Ukrainian Army’s medical service, and be involved in ensuring the implementation of state policy in the area of health protection for soldiers, their family members, war veterans and other categories of citizens specified by Ukrainian legislation.

The directorate will report to the Ministry of Defense. For matters of planning, application, management of the forces and means of the Army’s medical service and their training, the directorate will report to the chief of the General Staff, the commander-in-chief of the UAF.

Medical service colonel Oleksandr Okhonko, head of the medical service of the Ukrainian Army, has been appointed acting head of the Main Military Medical Directorate.
Earlier the Defense Ministry drafted a bill on military police.
