Ukraine calls Nord Stream 2 pipeline a military threat
Speaker of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine Andriy Parubiy stated that the Nord Stream 2 gas pipeline poses a military threat to Ukraine and Europe. According to him, the launch of the gas pipeline shows “Moscow’s aggressive intentions to exert pressure on the European Union.”
UNIAN news agency quotes him as saying that “The launch of Nord Stream 2 can also pose direct military threats that could trigger a new all-out attack of the Russian forces against Ukraine.”
Parubiy explained that the transit pipelines that are in the territory of the country and through which gas is transported to Europe from Russia, are still a constraining factor for “the Russian aggression.”
The construction of Nord Stream 2 will allow Russia to bypass Ukraine in supplying fuel to Europe, thereby removing this obstacle to aggression. He stressed that an energy threat posed by Russia to Kyiv is no less dangerous than a military one.
