Ukraine bans supply of An-148 aircraft engines to Russia
Ukrainian authorities have banned the supply of D-436 engines for civil aircraft to Russia, as stated by the Deputy Minister of Industry of the Russian Federation, Oleg Bocharov, during the round table in the State Duma, TASS reports.
"Unfortunately, the Ukrainian authorities have banned the supply of the 436th engine for civilian purposes," he said.
The D-436 engines are produced by the Motor Sich enterprise. In Russia they are installed on An-148 and Be-200 amphibious aircraft. As an alternative engine for the An-148, the Russian-French SaM-146 (installed on the Sukhoi Superjet) was proposed, however, the engine cannot be certified for use with the aircraft. Without the consent of Ukrainian side, the aircraft cannot be licensed to use a different engine.
In 2014, Ukraine stopped exporting military and dual-use goods to Russia in connection with Russian aggression and annexation of the Crimea by the Russian Federation. The ban on military-technical cooperation, including the supply of dual-purpose products, was established by presidential decree on August 27, 2014.
The government of Ukraine in May 2015 terminated the intergovernmental military-technical cooperation agreement with Russia that was signed in 1993. In August of the same year, the government denounced the intergovernmental agreement with the Russian Federation on the production and scientific and technical cooperation of defense enterprises from 1993.
