Turchynov: Russia preparing for a full-scale war in Europe

The secretary of the National Security and Defense Council of Ukraine, Oleksandr Turchynov, said that Russia is preparing for a large-scale war in Europe and Ukraine will be its first foothold, reports Interfax-Ukraine.

According to him, Moscow is not just investing billions in the development of military infrastructure but is preparing for full-scale military operations. “The first bridgehead they will try to take is our country,” he said.

Turchynov added that a strong Ukrainian army, as well as security and defense sector, are the most important factors in protecting peace in Europe.

In February, the President of Ukraine, Petro Poroshenko, speaking at the UN General Assembly, said that a full-scale war with Russia was becoming more and more real. According to him, there are more than 87 thousand Russian soldiers along the Russian-Ukrainian border, and another 2.1 thousand are located in the Donbas. “They (Russian military group) are intended for a military strike, the Kremlin is preparing for this,” said the head of state. Later, Poroshenko listed the “Russian preparation stages.”
