Russian officer and his partner convicted of spying for Ukraine

The Center for Public Relations of the FSB stated that a serviceman of the Black Sea Fleet and his common-law spouse were convicted of espionage in favor of Ukraine, reports TASS.

Major Dolgopolov was sentenced to 10 years in prison. His girlfriend, Sukhonosova received 9 years.

On February 28th, a Russian court found them guilty of committing a crime under article 275 of the Russian Criminal Code (state treason). They are charged with espionage by peddling state classified information. The officer and his girlfriend were detained in 2017 in the occupied Simferopol.

The FSB states that the civilian wife of the military man, being recruited by a GRU officer of the Ukrainian Ministry of Defense, enticed him into “cooperating with the Ukrainian special services for monetary reward. The Russian claim that the convicts allegedly were relaying secret information about the activities of units and formations of the Black Sea Fleet to the Ukrainian Special Forces.

In court, Dolgopolov and Sukhonosov fully admitted their guilt and repented, noted the FSB Office of Public Relations.
