Russian Embassy in Damascus comes under mortar fire
The building of the Russian trade mission came under mortar fire in Damascus. The building was seriously damaged, reported the Russian Foreign Ministry on Tuesday evening, February 6.
“At approximately 16:00 local time, the building of the Trade Mission of the Russian Federation in Damascus (currently inactive, but continues to have diplomatic immunity) was hit by a 120-mm mine. No one was injured or killed. The building was seriously damaged,” the report said.
Russian diplomats said they “strongly condemn yet another terrorist attack against the diplomatic mission of Russia in Damascus, which has become another link in a chain of crimes committed by them against the peaceful population of the Syrian capital in recent days.”
The Russian Foreign Ministry appealed to international and regional partners to “objectively look at what is happening and give a due and principled assessment of the actions of those who commit terrorist attacks directed against diplomatic missions, religious buildings and humanitarian missions.”
On February 5, Russian humanitarian aid distribution centers in Damascus were attacked with mortar fire.
