Russia will jam cell communications at military bases in Syria

Russian electronic warfare troops will begin to jam cellular communication on Russian bases in Syria. The order to suppress 2G and 3G cellular communication signals on bases in Khmeimim and Tartus was signed by the chief of the 8th Department of the General Staff, General Yuri Kuznetsov.

Details were reported on February 20 by RBC news agency, citing a source in the Ministry of Defense. According to the news agency, these measures were taken after the attacks of unmanned aerial vehicles on Russian military facilities. The military explained that the drones can follow a specific signal via a phone number.

On the night of January 1, the Russian Khmeimim Airbase in Syria was attacked with drones. Eight drones were involved in the attack. On the night of January 6, Russian military facilities in Syria were again attacked by drones equipped with small explosives.
