Russia to conduct large-scale exercises of its Strategic Missile Forces

In late September, Russia will conduct large-scale, command and staff exercises for the Strategic Missile Forces in the Novosibirsk region. More than four thousand military and about 400 units of equipment will participate in the maneuvers, the Russian Defense Ministry announced.

"We will work on an extensive list of tasks, including achieving highest levels of combat readiness, maneuvering the routes of combat patrolling, countering subversive groups and strikes of precision weapons, performing combat missions in the conditions of active radio electronic interference and intensive operations in the areas of deployment of troops," the statement says.

According to Russia’s Ministry of Defense, ten types of advanced special equipment will be used during the exercises for the first time, including equipment for engineering, protection and defense units as well as new equipment for the troops of Radiological, Chemical and Biological Defense.

The air force will be extensively involved. MiG-31 fighter jets will be used, air reconnaissance missions will be carried out by AN-30 aircraft, and combat transport helicopters and systems with unmanned aerial vehicles will be used for search operations.

The Novosibirsk missile compound arsenal includes the RS-24 Yars intercontinental ballistic missiles. It was reported earlier that on September 12, Russia successfully tested the Yars missile. It was launched from the Plesetsk Cosmodrome in the Arkhangelsk region aiming at Kamchatka.
