Russia promises to respond to the deployment of NATO forces at Georgian border

Konstantin Kosachev, the head of the Foreign Affairs Committee of the Russian Federation announced on Wednesday that Russia will have to implement its own military plan in case of Georgia’s membership in NATO and the deployment of NATO forces at the borders with Georgia.

In case of Georgia’s membership in the Alliance, “the normalization of Russia’s relations with Tbilisi, together with South Ossetia and Abkhazia, will not have any prospects,” said Kosachev at the meeting with journalists.

He emphasized that NATO’s military planning programs, as well as the deployment of new weapons and subdivisions of the Alliance would be extended to Georgia.

“All this will create additional tension in the South Caucasus, so Russia will have to respond with its own military plan,” he said.

“In the event of the deployment of new military systems (NATO) in the immediate vicinity of the Russian borders, Russia will take all measures to ensure the security of Russia and its allies,” the senator said.
