Ukrainian defense industry isn’t able to supply a sufficient number of weapons to defend the country

The Secretary of the National Security and Defense Council of Ukraine, Oleksandr Turchynov, stated at a meeting with the Director of the State Security Department of Lithuania, Darius Jauniškis, that the issue with Western partners supplying Ukraine with lethal weapons is still unresolved. The Ukrainian defense industry isn’t able to supply a sufficient number of weapons to effectively counter Russian military aggression.

"Currently, the Ukrainian defense industry is the only producer of lethal weapons but these supplies are insufficient to counter the aggressor," Turchynov said, adding that a strong Ukrainian Army armed with modern weapons is an important factor for peace and security in Europe.

According to the information released on the website of the National Security and Defense Council, Jauniškis commented on the need for and prospects of bilateral cooperation, especially in the defense and security sector. “Our countries move in the same direction; we are ready to provide further support to Ukraine by all available means,” he said.

During the meeting, Turchynov and Jauniškis discussed the region’s security issue and noted the need to strengthen Ukrainian-Lithuanian cooperation in the defense and security sector, especially cooperation between intelligence and counterintelligence agencies.

The parties also analyzed the overall threats arising from the militaristic ambitions of Russia and stressed that lifting sanctions against the aggressor was not acceptable.
