Ukrainian Defense Industry develops remote controlled mini armored vehicle
Ukrainian State Concern Ukroboronprom’s latest creation, Phantom, is a remote-controlled mini armored vehicle as reported by Ukroboronprom’s press service on its Facebook page.
“Phantom's aiming devices allow the user to fire at any time of the day or night at a distance of more than 1 kilometer. The driving range of Phantom is up to 20 kilometers. It is controlled via a secure radio channel or via a 5-kilometer-long fiber cable,” the report says.
Phantom is able to transport ammunition, evacuate wounded soldiers from the battlefield and perform combat missions. UNIAN news agency reported that the presentation of the first test sample took place on the 29th of August at the Kyiv tank plant in the presence of the Secretary of the National Security and Defense Council of Ukraine, Oleksandr Turchynov, the Minister of Defense of Ukraine, Stepan Poltorak and the General Director of Ukroboronprom, Roman Romanov.
One of the developers of Phantom,Sergey Polyakov, pointed out that the armored vehicle is equipped with a 12.7 mm machine gun, a thermal imaging camera for night opartaions and has an armored body. According to Romanov, only a few countries are capable of manufacturing such equipment.
Ukroboronprom production is being developed as a part the government Ukrainian Shield strategy, which facilitates the transition to high-tech production, adherence to the international standards of NATO and ensures the equipment of the army with modern models of weapons.
Ukroboronprom has promised to completely adhere to NATO’s standards by 2020.
