Ukraine to launch train ferry to Georgia

Ukraine and Georgia have agreed on direct international rail traffic through the ports of the two countries. The corresponding agreement was signed by representatives from the respective governments at the International Maritime Forum in Batumi, as reported by the press service of the Ministry of Infrastructure of Ukraine.

“We have signed a very important document that will ensure the connection of Ukraine, Georgia, Kazakhstan and Azerbaijan through the Silk Road,” the minister of infrastructure, Volodymyr Omelyan, said.

“Our countries have worked hard to simplify the logistics and to make the transit more affordable, and most importantly, increase the speed of delivery of the goods and to make it as comfortable for the business as possible. Now the demands of the market are such that the speed of delivery is of no less importance than the price of delivery. More and more companies are willing to bear the additional costs so that the goods are delivered not in two or three months, but in nine to fifteen days,” the minister said.

According to Omelyan, this year the delivery of containers from China to the western borders of Ukraine will be made faster – up to nine or ten days.

Earlier, it was reported that Georgia will build a Black Sea port on the Silk Road.
