Ukraine suspends trade activities of 243 Russian companies operating in the Donbas

Two years after the beginning of Russia’s aggression in the Donbas, the Security Service of Ukraine (SSU) has temporarily suspended the foreign trade activities of 243 Russian companies doing business in the territories which are beyond Kiev’s control.

At the initiative of the SSU, the foreign trade activities of 243 Russian companies doing business with commercial entities in the temporarily occupied territories of the Donetsk and Lugansk regions have been suspended, the SSU press center reported on July 29.

It turned out that most of these Russian companies also cooperate legally with Ukraine, the report says. That is why they weren’t subject to the provisions of the decree from the President of Ukraine on the application of personal, special, economic and other restrictive measures. The SSU handed over the materials to the Ministry of Economic Development and Trade. The experts from the Ministry determined that Ukrainian producers are fully able to compensate for Russian imports.

In this context, the decision was made to suspend the foreign trade activities of these Russian companies, as noted in the SSU report. On July 6, the Ukrainian government extended its embargo against Russia until the end of 2017.
