Ukraine may introduce visa requirements for Russians

Andriy Teteruk, first deputy chairperson of the People’s Front party, said in a 112 Ukraine TV broadcast that the Verkhovna Rada is doing “everything possible” to introduce a visa regime with Russia.

According to him, this matter could be resolved as early as next week. Explanatory work is currently being done in parliament, and the number of deputies who will vote in favor of a visa regime is being assessed.

“The introduction of a visa regime will be an adequate response of the Ukrainian authorities to all the aggression which has been taking place in recent years. Everything possible is being done for this purpose,” Teteruk stated.

He emphasized that this topic will be considered immediately after acceptance of the Ukrainian visa free regime with the EU.

“In my view, immediately after Ukraine receives the visa-free regime [with the EU], the next strategic matter which needs to be resolved in the parliament is the introduction of a visa regime with Russia,” the deputy chairperson stated.

On Sunday the Ukrainian media reported that voting to remove the visa-free regime with Russia could take place as early as next week. Discussion of the matter was initiated by the Petro Poroshenko Bloc and the People’s Front party.
