Ukraine is building its own ammunition factory

Two ammunition production lines have already been built in Ukraine. The construction of these production lines was completed by the TASKO Corporation, which united more than 25 military companies and design bureaus, as stated by the Corporation President, Valeriy Pavlyukov.

"We are building an ammunition factory, we have been working on it for 10 years, fully funding it at the expense of our current assets. We have just finished two production lines where we can manufacture ammunition. Before that, we were busy preparing the leased sites," he said.

Pavlyukov added that the corporation is now engaged in producing artillery ammunition. According to him, in Ukraine there is no integrated ammunition production, and during the Soviet era there were only "separate elements."

In addition, the president of TASKO pointed out that the ammunition production industry is based on mass production.

"Only mass production makes it possible to reduce the price for our own domestic market and to ensure competitiveness in the foreign market," he said.

However, according to Pavlyukov, there are many obstacles within the foundation of Ukraine that limit the production of ammunition.

"Everything is restricted in our country. Export opportunities are provided to only five enterprises that are part of Ukroboronprom. And where the earlier commission was 3%, is it now at 11-13% and higher. No firm, a normal arms manufacturer, will be able to enter the market and compete if such fees are applied to it," he said.

Pavlyukov noted that now the most important issue is to "enable private sector enterprises to sell their products on their own, as well as purchase components and materials by themselves. This will make it possible to increase output as a result of mass production. There will be an opportunity to invest in production development," he added.
