Ukraine extends food embargo on Russia until 2017

The Ukrainian Cabinet of Ministers has extended the reciprocal measures in response to Russia's prolonging the food embargo until the end of 2017, as reported by Interfax-Ukraine.

This decision was made during the Government’s meeting on July 6th, giving its support to the proposal by the Ukrainian Ministry of Economic Development and Trade (MEDT).

As was reported, on June 29th, Russian President Vladimir Putin extended the food embargo against countries that imposed sanctions against Russia until the end of 2017.

Russia imposed an embargo on exports of Ukrainian food on 1 January 2016. In response, as of the beginning of this year, the Ukrainian Government approved new trade countermeasures and has introduced import duties on a wide range of Russian goods, the value of which is equal to the Ukrainian export prohibited by Russia.

The Deputy Minister – Trade representative Nataliya Mykol’ska, stated on July 1st, "The Ministry’s proposal is to extend our embargo for the same period in response to Russia's prolonging the embargo."
