Transnistria puts Air Defense Forces on high alert

The President of the partially self-declared Republic of Transnistria, Yevgeny Shevchuk, ordered that the Air Defense Forces of Transnistrian separatists be put on full alert, according to the President’s press service.

Shevchuk’s administration claims that the decision to put Air Defense Forces on high alert was taken after a Romanian aircraft flew over part of Moldavian territory that is controlled by separatists.

The Romanian aircraft, allegedly sent through Moldova’s initiative, had been conducting an aerial photo survey of the districts of Ribnica, Dubăsari, Grigoriopol and Slobozia for several days. The President of Transnistria also expressed concern about the placement of American F-22 Raptor fighters at a Romanian airbase. Those aircraft were deployed to the Mihail Kogălniceanu airbase on the Black Sea coast of Romania on April 25th.
