Secretary General of the All-Russia Athletic Federation suspended from the IAAF
The Secretary General of the All-Russia Athletic Federation (ARAF), Mikhail Butov was temporarily excluded from the International Association of Athletic Federations (IAAF). According to Butov, his membership is suspended until the rights of the ARAF are restored, TASS reported.
“The suspension of my membership in IAAF has significantly worsened the situation related to the disqualification of the All-Russia Athletic Federation. Earlier, I had the opportunity to be present at different meetings as a member of the Council, to communicate with colleagues, discuss all issues and convey my point of view to them. Now, none of these will be possible,” Butov stated.
Butov suspects that Russian representatives and athletes in other international athletic organizations have also been barred, R-Sport reported. On the 17th of June, the IAAF extended sanctions against ARAF because of doping, thus removing Russian athletes from the Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro. The discussion of this issue in the International Olympic Committee is scheduled on the 21st of June.
