The EU is not satisfied with Ukraine's progress in fulfilling obligations for visa-free regime
The EU is dissatisfied with Ukraine’s fulfillment of all legal obligations concerning the adoption of visa-free regime in 2016, according to a Facebook post by Sergey Leshchenko, member of the Ukrainian Verkhovna Rada, after a meeting with the diplomats of the EU agencies in Brussels.
“More precisely, Ukraine has fulfilled three of the five requirements for adoption. The EU considered the amendments to three acts made last week but the EU did not consider a declaration law, according to which criminal liability will be enforced from 2017 and the EU is also waiting until the national anti-corruption agency is established," Leshchenko wrote.
He emphasized that if Ukraine wants to see the adoption of a visa-free regime in the summer of 2016, in the coming weeks they should amend the declaration law establishing responsibility for falsifications in declarations and elect an additional three members to the NACA (National anti-corruption agency).
"The problem is that Georgia is in a package with Ukraine. Many years ago, Georgia fulfilled all the EU requirements and they are waiting for Ukraine to take similar steps. A few weeks ago, Juncker, the President of The European Commission, promised the Prime Minister of Georgia that if Ukraine does not fulfill all additional requirements in the coming weeks, the Ukrainian-Georgian package will be terminated," Leshchenko added.
Vladimir Groisman has brought a proposal for the package of laws which are necessary for the adoption of the visa-free regime and has sent them for President Petro Poroshenko’s signature.
