The construction of the wall on the border of the Kharkiv region with Russia is suspended

The realization of the Wall Project in Kharkiv region on the border with Russia, also known as the Ukrainian Wall or the European Wall, has been suspended due to lack of financing.

This was reported during a press conference by the chairman of the Kharkiv Regional State Administration Yuliya Svitlychna, UNIAN informs.

"There is no financing for this project, which is why, as far as I know, it is discontinued within the territory of the Kharkiv region,” Svitlychna said.

She added that to date, within the Kharkiv region, work is being conducted on maintaining the technical condition of the already-built constructions on the border with Russia as a result of the Wall project.

"To date, we maintain those structures and construction works that have already been made. As far as I know, new special equipment is either being purchased or passed by our international partners. The amount of work which already done remains in good condition today. With regard to the future work of this project, as far as I know this project will not be resumed.”

The European Wall project is an initiative of the Ukrainian leadership to fortify the border with Russia. It is expected that its implementation will be completed before the end of 2018. The total amount of funds provided for the project is 4 billion UAH. During the first phase in 2015, the arrangement of the border with the Russian Federation in Chernihiv, Sumy and Kharkiv regions was carried out. For the second stage, construction is planned in the Luhansk and Donetsk regions.
