Russian MP: US military activity is turning Europe into a 'powder keg'

The First Deputy Chairman of Russia’s Federation Council Committee on Defense and Security, Franz Klintsevich, stated that the United States, by sending US forces and military equipment to Europe, are transforming Europe into a powder keg, Interfax reported.

On Saturday, Klintsevich said that, “the softest adjectives that come to mind characterizing this step are the words provocative, brash and demonstrative. The US and NATO deliberately run up against a tough response from our side. It is no longer a question of if we will respond but rather a matter of when. In fact, military equipment arrived from overseas and was placed along the perimeter of our borders with Poland and the Baltic countries,” Klintsevich said.

Furthermore, he asserted that, "I have no doubt that Russia will be able to ensure its security. At the same time, though, it is obvious that Europe has turned into a powder keg."

Klintsevich, also commented on the fact that on Friday, hundreds of tanks, self-propelled howitzers and other military vehicles, arrived from the United States to Germany by sea.

“I think that everyone knows why this large-scale military redeployment is happening now. Apparently, the outgoing US administration is doing its best to complicate the already existing difficult Russian-American relations, aiming to tie the hands of the newly elected President,” Klintsevich said. “With this move, when Donald Trump moves into the White House, even if he wanted to delay any actions until the situation is clarified, he wont be able to.”
