Russian Bulava ballistic missile detonated prematurely during testing

One of the two Bulava ballistic missiles, which were launched from the Yury Dolgoruky submarine in the White Sea, has self-destructed. It was aimed at the Kura test site in Kamchatka.

This was reported on the 27th of September by the press-service of the Ministry of Defense of the Russian Federation.

Experimental volley firing with two rockets, from a submerged position, was made on the 27th of September. Both missiles, as reported by the Defense Ministry, “were launched from the submarine normally following the desired trajectory”.

The first missile, after performing the complete cycle of the flight program, successfully hit the target at the testing site. However, the second missile self-destructed after the first stage of the flight program. The reasons for this were not specified.
