Russian Defense Ministry confirms Egypt will begin receiving Kamov Ka-52 attack helicopters later this year
The Director General of Russia's Rosoboronexport concern, Alexander Mikheev stated in his interview with Interfax that Russia will start supplying Ka-52 Alligator attack helicopters to Egypt in 2017. “No, the supplies haven’t started yet. They will start this year. Everything is covered under the terms of the contract,” Mikheev said.
On Tuesday, Russian Deputy Defense Minister Yuri Borisov confirmed that Egypt will begin receiving Russian-built Kamov Ka-52 attack helicopters later this year.
The Deputy Prime Minister of Russia, Dmitry Rogozin previously stated that he expected the range of military equipment exported to Egypt to expand, partly through the supply of the helicopters. In December 2015, as Head of JSC Russian Helicopters, Mikheev reported that Russia would supply forty six Ka-52 Alligator helicopters to Egypt. It was also reported that implementation of the contract would start in 2017.
The Ka-52 Alligator combat reconnaissance-attack helicopter has been manufactured for the needs of the Russian Defense Ministry since 2010. The helicopter is designed for destroying tanks, armored and unarmored combat vehicles, enemy troops, helicopters and other enemy aircraft at the forefront and in tactical depth, in all weather conditions and at any time of the day or night.
