Russia accuses western media of interfering in its internal politics

Several American press agencies working in Russian territory have openly interfered with the country’s internal politics, announced Andrey Isayev, deputy head of the Yedinaya Rossiya (United Russia) party, as reported by Interfax.

Interfax reported that the Russian State Duma Committee on information policy presented the report regarding the compliance of the US press agencies working in Russia with national legislation. The document states that several of these agencies have openly interfered with the internal politics of Russia.

“In the recent Duma elections, these news agencies consistently discredited the political parties represented in parliament and instead supported the political parties which did not receive Russian voters’ support on September 16,” the MP stated.

He added that another matter would be considered at the session, namely the fact that several US news agencies registered in Russia have signed agreements with foreign state media to publish material prepared outside the country.

Sergey Mironov head of the Spravedlivaya Rossiya (A Just Russia) party told reporters that the report was commissioned due to accusations directed against the Russian media for interfering in the American electoral campaign. In this connection, the lawmakers decided to assess how the foreign media in Russia was behaving.

The document mentions, inter alia, Golos Ameriki and Radio Svoboda. Mironov noted that these agencies did not make even one negative statement about the parties Yabloko (Apple) or PARNAS (The People's Freedom Party), but spoke ill of the parliamentary parties, especially Yedinaya Rossiya. In the MP’s opinion, this constitutes interference in the internal politics of the country.
