Putin: All officials involved in the doping scandal will be dismissed

Russian President Vladimir Putin stated that the officials named in the WADA (World Anti-Doping Agency) report will be temporarily suspended from their positions until an investigation into the incident is over, the Kremlin's press service reported.

“To let us make a final decision on the responsibility of the government officials we would like to request that the WADA commission provide us with more complete, objective information information, information which is based on facts and which can be used by the investigative bodies,”  the Russian President stated.

According to Putin, the accusations against Russian athletes are based on evidence from just one person, “a person with a scandalous reputation”.

The independent WADA commission published a report on the manipulation of the doping control process by Russia. According to the investigation, the Russian Deputy Minister of Sport, Yury Nagorny, was directly involved in the manipulation of the doping control process while the Russian Minister of Sport, Vitaly Mutko, was aware of it.

Later, the Press Secretary for the President of Russia, Dmitry Peskov, said that Vitaky Mutko will not be suspended.

“Mutko is not named in the WADA reports as an immediate perpetrator,” Peskov said.

According to Peskov the the decision on the temporary suspension only refers to the Deputy Minister of Sport Yury Nagorny.
