Ukrainian President refused to lift ban on VKontakte social network

The President of Ukraine, Petro Poroshenko responded to a public petition demanding to unlock the Russian social network VKontakte, as reported on the website of the President Administration.

“I do not think it is possible to support the electronic petition to unlock the Internet resource Vkontakte,” he said in response to the petition. As Poroshenko noted, the application of special economic and restrictive measures to the Russian holding Mail.ru Group and other Russian Internet companies for a period of 3 years “is an adequate legal action for today.”

“The Russian holding company Mail.ru Group, which includes VKontakte, Mail.ru Ukraine, VKontakte limited liability companies, as well as a group of Yandex companies and some other Internet companies are widely used by Russian special services to promote Russian propaganda and conduct special information operations against Ukraine and its citizens,” the President added.
