President of Ukraine: 50 military aircraft will be upgraded this year

Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko said that this year, 2.5 billion hryvnia was allocated to the restoration of Air Force aircraft. "This year, the State allocated about 2.5 billion hryvnia for the restoration of the Air Force. After these repairs, we can get about 50 aircraft restored to operational capability: 35 airplanes and 15 helicopters," he said, speaking to first year students at the Ivan Kozhedub Kharkiv Air Force University in Chuhuiv on Friday.

Petro Poroshenko stated that 2016 has been declared the year of the Air Force of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.

The President stated that more than 30 combat aircraft of various types are being repaired. Moreover, the Air Force is preparing to receive new aircraft built on the base of the Ukrainian transport aircraft, Antonov An-148. According to the President of Ukraine the modernization of electronic warfare and aerial reconnaissance facilities is due to be completed before 2020.
