More than 15 tons of fruit from Europe were destroyed in Crimea

More than 15 tons of fruit from Poland and Spain were destroyed in Russian-annexed Crimea according to the Crimean Office of Rosselkhoznadzor.

"The apples of Polish origin with a total weight of 15 tons and 156 kilograms of Spanish oranges were detected by state inspectors of Rosselkhoznadzor during a joint raid conducted with the staff of the Ministry of Internal Affairs for the Republic of Crimea and services on Land and Phytosanitary Supervision for the Republic of Crimea,” declared the statement.

The inspection established that the importer of the product was the Republic of Belarus. In the Department they stressed that the fruit were delivered to the peninsula "illegally.”

"By resolution of the administration, the fruit was destroyed by burial in the Simferopol municipal solid waste landfill using large-size equipment," noted the management of Rosselkhoznadzor. Now the managers of the department are trying to establish the logistics of the supply routes for such goods.

Restrictive measures were introduced in Russia and the Crimea on the import of food and agricultural products from countries that had introduced sanctions against Moscow for its occupation of Crimea and aggression in eastern Ukraine.

Since August 6th, 2015 the detected illegal products, in accordance with the decree of Russian President Vladimir Putin, have been destroyed instead of being returned to suppliers.
