Mogherini: The EU-Ukraine Association Agreement remains a top priority

According to a statement issued by the European External Action Service, the High Representative of the Union for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy, Federica Mogherini, stated during a meeting with Ukrainian Prime Minister Volodymyr Groysman that the ratification and impementation of the EU-Ukraine Association Agreement remains a top priority.

Mogherini explained that a solution to the current situation is in the works since it was announced by the European Council in June. The Netherlands hadn’t completed the ratification because of a referendum in which citizens voted against the EU-Ukraine Association Agreement.

After the Groysman-Mogherini meeting, the Cabinet of Ministers revealed that the parties agreed to hold the meeting of the EU-Ukraine Association Council in late 2016. The Prime Minister of Ukraine and the High Representative of the Union are Co-Chairs of the meeting. “We should make joint efforts to give real and specific content to the following meeting of the Association Council,” Groysman stressed.

As noted by the European External Action Service, it was Volodymyr Groysman’s first meeting with Federica Mogherini since his appointment as the Prime Minister of Ukraine in April. Mogherini appreciated that the fight against corruption remains at the heart of Ukraine's reform process.
