Lutsenko: Prosecutor General's office is charging 700 with treason over annexation of Crimea
The Prosecutor General of Ukraine, Yuriy Lutsenko, stated at a press conference in Kiev that the military prosecutor’s office is working on criminal proceedings against over 700 people charged with high treason.
Lutsenko said "Our goal this year is to convict all traitors to Ukraine," referring to the events surrounding the annexation of Crimea.
Lutsenko specified that more than 700 individuals are charged with article 111 "High treason" including members of Parliament, prosecutors, judges and other high-ranking officials of Crimea. According to him, conviction of these people in absentia and printing summons required 9 million UAH.
"Special newspaper issues are published not only on the day of Prosecutor’s appointment but on the day of the traitors’ convictions. So expect tomorrow a special issue of "Golos Ukrainy" in which one of the two necessary summons against 727 individuals will be printed. The following issue of "Golos Ukrainy" will be published with the second special summons and we will appeal to the Court of Appeal for this case to be distributed between all Courts in Kiev… Our task is to convict all traitors to Ukraine this year and to impose penalties provided by law,” Lutsenko said.
He also expressed hope that all traitors will be on the international most wanted list according to article 111 "with all their property in the territory of Ukraine confiscated."
