Juncker: Holding elections in the Donbas is impossible until the security situation improves

The President of the European Commission, Jean-Claude Juncker, stated during a joint press conference in Brussels with the Prime Minister of Ukraine, Volodymyr Groysman, that holding local elections in the Donetsk and Luhansk regions is impossible until the security situation in the area improves.

“I share the view of Ukrainian Prime Minister and Johannes Hahn that the local elections can’t be held until the situation with security in eastern Ukraine is improved,” Jean-Claude Juncker stated. The President of the European Commission recalled that the European Union extended sanctions against Russia as a sign of support for the territorial integrity of Ukraine.

“Our Ukrainian friends should know that they aren’t alone because the European Union is ready to support them. As I previously explained to the Russian President, Vladimir Putin, the more implementation of Minsk Agreements there is, the less sanctions there will be,” Juncker said.
