Jaresko: Ukraine does not have enough money to hold early parliamentary elections
Ukraine cannot afford to hold early parliamentary elections in 2016, according to the country’s Minister of Finance, Natalie Jaresko. She discussed this on the 8th of February on the Svoboda Slova program on the ICTV channel. This was reported by Glavnoe citing Zerkalo Nedeli.
“There is no money in the Ukrainian budget for holding early elections in 2016. If we do hold elections, we will have to attract funds from somewhere or something will have to be underfunded,” Jaresko continued.
She also mentioned that the credit given to Ukraine by the International Monetary Fund (IMF) is because the Cabinet of the Ministers had made commitments to the IMF. In the case of new elections, the IMF will not release the next tranche for Ukraine until the new government agrees to this program of assistance with the IMF.
Jaresko emphasized that Ukrainian politicians should overcome political crises and “reset” relationships between partners, which would prevent the dissolution of the Verkhovna Rada.
