Former US Ambassador in Moscow Michael McFaul banned from entering Russia

The former U.S. Ambassador to Russia, Michael McFaul, has been banned from entering Russia, as the diplomat wrote on Friday, 11 November, on his Twitter account.

According to McFaul, the Kremlin has added him to the sanctions list because of his close affiliation with Obama. The Former Ambassador found out about his travel ban when he tried to get a visa to travel to Moscow next month.

"I hope that I am not banned from entering Russia forever. Since 1983, I've been living in and traveling to that country. I look forward to the day when I can host Vladislav Surkov at Stanford, and can lecture again at my alma mater, Moscow State University,” McFaul wrote.

A source from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs confirmed to Dozhd TV that McFaul is indeed on the reciprocal sanctions list. He has been added to it because of his "affiliation with Obama" and his active involvement in damaging relations as well as conducting a sustained lobbying campaign putting pressure on Russia, the source said.

Michael McFaul was the U.S. Ambassador to Russia from 2012 until 2014. He attended Moscow State University in the early 1990’s.
