An upgraded version of the Iskander-M operational-tactical missile system will be presented after 2020, announced Sergey Chemezov, the general director of Rostekh State Corporation, TASS reported.
“Over the last few years at MSC [the JSC Scientific Production Corporation Engineering Design Bureau], more than twenty complexes of precision weapons and their modifications were created. In accordance with the adopted strategy of the Armament cluster, in ten years we intend to improve the operational-tactical missile system. After 2020, we will present an upgraded version of OTMS Iskander-M,” said Chemezov.
Earlier, MSC general designer Valery Kashin said in an interview with TASS that the Iskander-M systems will be armed for the next 25-30 years and proposals for their modernization are currently under consideration at the Ministry of Defense of the Russian Federation. According to him, the existing contract to supply OTMS troops will last until 2017.
On 11 April, the Design Bureau of Engineering will celebrate its 75th anniversary. It is the only developer of domestic man-portable air-defense systems or MANPADS that include the “Strela,” “Igla,” “Verba,” OTMS “Chrysantema” and OTMS “Iskander.”
