Almost 9,000 IT specialists left Ukraine in the last 2 years

The growth of the Ukrainian IT market to $2.5 billion at the end of 2015 has not led to an increase in the number of the industry experts. On the contrary, there is a serious lack of young IT specialists.

As the press service of SmartMe University reported, citing its managing partner Oksana Belaya, over the past two years up to 9,000 IT specialists emigrated from Ukraine to Europe and the United States, Interfax-Ukraine reports.

"Unfortunately, over the past two years, 9,000 IT professionals left Ukraine to immigrate to the United States and Europe. However, the new space quickly compensated for the young professionals," she said.

The company also reports that according to the results of research conducted by the international consulting company IDC, today Ukraine's share in the global volume of the information technology market amounts to 1%. However, according to forecasts, the IT market in Ukraine could grow by 5-10% in 2016.

"At the moment, there are about 90,000 – 100,000 IT specialists. And though it is one of the highest rates in Europe, the number of qualified professionals are still not enough. In India, for example, the IT industry employs more than 1 million programmers," Oksana Belaya said.
