Military intelligence from eight countries hold emergency meeting in Kyiv

Representatives of military intelligence from eight countries gathered in Kyiv for an emergency meeting to assess the most immediate threats from Russia in the Black Sea.

According to the official website of the Main Intelligence Directorate of the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine, an international forum – the Black Sea Intelligence Forum – was held in the country for several days.

“The forum was organized due to the recent significant deterioration of global and regional security due to aggressive actions by the Russian Federation and the need to find ways to resolve the situation by joint efforts of the countries of the region and leading countries of the world,” the report said.

Briefings, plenary meetings and panel discussions were held during the forum to discuss and consider current and possible threats to regional and world security. During these meetings, one of the biggest threats to the national security of each of the participating countries of the forum and global security in general was considered to be the aggressive actions of the Russian Federation. This includes the increase of Russian troops near the Ukrainian border and the annexed Crimea, as well as the escalation of tension caused by Russia in the Black Sea and Sea of Azov.

During the forum, several joint reports from various countries were made. In addition, heads of delegations held a number of bilateral and multilateral high-level meetings.

Based on the intelligence information received from the participating countries, the participants in the meeting determined practical measures to counteract the increase of Russian aggression in the region and the world.

It was reported that this was the first international forum on this level held since Russia’s armed aggression against Ukraine began. Ukrainian officials attending the event included Minister of Defense of Ukraine Stepan Poltorak, the head of the Defense Ministry of Ukraine Vasily Burba, and representatives of the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine. Delegations of military intelligence from eight different countries were invited.
