Syrian military bases came under missile attack

The Syrian army has reported that its bases in the provinces of Aleppo and Hama had been subjected to missile strikes. Al-Arabiya news agency has published information on the strike, citing military sources. The television channel’s sources called the strike a “new attack by enemies” of the regime of Syrian President Bashar al-Assad; however, it is not yet known who specifically launched the strike.

Al-Arabiya’s sources said that the sound of exploding shells was heard in these localities around 22:30 local time on Sunday evening. "Syria is being subjected to a new aggression. Enemy missiles have hit military bases in the areas of Hama and Aleppo,” the channel quotes one of its sources as saying. The explosions, its sources specify, were "consistent". According to the same sources, these strikes were aimed at the positions of Iranian troops stationed on these bases. At the same time, other sources claim that the explosions at the bases occurred as a result of "fire on the ammunition stock belonging to the Assad regime".

The channel noted that the Syrian authorities have already begun investigating the incidents.

One Al-Arabiya source explained that the attack near Hama specifically targeted the weapons storage facilities of the 47th Syrian Army brigade. The channel explained that this facility is located between Al-Malikiayh and Al-Nayrab airport. A source from Syrian law enforcement confirmed with the Russian publication RIA Novosti that this site was one of the targets of missile strikes. As a result of the attack, he said, "there were powerful explosions and a strong fire." Other details of the incident had not yet been reported.

strike against Syria was launched by the United States, United Kingdom and France on the night of April 14. The Western allies called the action a response to reports of a chemical attack in the Syrian city of the Duma. According to the World Health Organization, 43 people were killed as a result of this incident; approximately 500 others were injured. The coalition then laid responsibility for what happened on the regime of Bashar al-Assad and Russia, "which was not able to stop it."

Attacks by American, British and French military forces were subsequently carried out in Syria against a research center in Damascus, as well as two sites in Homs province. All of them occurred against sites that the Western allies believed were associated with the production or storage of chemical weapons.
