Lithuania publishes proof of Red Army crimes

The Genocide and Resistance Research Center of Lithuania published documents on crimes of the Red Army in Lithuania that included murders, rapes and robberies, Delfi news outlet reports. The publication ran on the anniversary of the withdrawal of Soviet troops from Lithuania.

Documents of the Communist Party, the Red Army, the Ministry of Internal Affairs and other departments were published on the Internet, disclosing their "repressive and violent actions in Lithuania from 1944 to 1953". The documents show that women were raped in Klaipeda and Silute, regardless of age or nationality, after the arrival of the Soviet military.

“Seventy-year-old grandmothers and 14-year-old girls were raped, even in the presence of their parents,” the Center said. The documents also describe a shooting spree by drunken Soviet soldiers that resulted in deaths of people, arson of estates, robbery and other crimes.

Decades later, Soviet troops would finally leave Lithuania on August 31, 1993. Earlier, it was reported that Estonia and Latvia want to receive compensation from Russia for the Soviet occupation.

In November 2015, Ministers of Justice of Lithuania, Latvia and Estonia signed a memorandum of cooperation in which they announced their intention to claim damage compensation from Russia for “Soviet occupation.”

In response, Russian Deputy Prime Minister Dmitry Rogozin said that the Baltic countries will receive “dead donkey’s ears.”
