Russian Foreign Minister Lavrov to visit North Korea

Foreign Minister of Russia Sergey Lavrov will visit North Korea on May 31, the Press Department of the Foreign Ministry stated, RBC news agency reports.

Earlier, the official representative of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Russian Federation, Maria Zakharova told TASS that “the visit of the Russian Foreign Minister to the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea is being worked out.” She added that specific dates would be announced through official channels.

Lavrov was reappointed as Foreign Minister of Russia on May 18. He would not visit the Summit of Ministers of the Group of Twenty because of “ scheduled government activities.” Two of his planned visits to Argentina and Cuba were also cancelled.

Lavrov last met with North Korean Foreign Minister Ri Yong Ho in early April. Bilateral economic and political cooperation between Moscow and Pyongyang was discussed during the meeting.
