Kyiv: Russia intends to build a wall on the Ukraine-Crimea border

In the spring of 2018 Russia is going to start construction of a so-called wall along the border between mainland of Ukraine and the annexed Crimea, as reported by the Press Secretary of the State Border Guard Service of Ukraine (State Border Guard Service), Oleh Slobodyan, to Hromadske TV.

According to Slobodyan, any large-scale construction in the autumn-winter period is inexpedient and rather difficult.

"The legal registration of this process will be completed before the New Year. Therefore, most likely, the active phase of construction will begin in the spring," he said.

Ukraine will not build any major facilities, said the speaker of the Ukrainian SBGS.

Slobodyan noted that this is a moral question: "Why would we isolate ourselves from our citizens and build some permanent infrastructure buildings in Ukraine, if we are clearly determined to return the Crimea."
