Kyiv: 100 Ukrainians who went to work in Russia are now being detained there

Valeriya Lutkovska, the Ukrainian Parliament Commissioner for Human Rights said in an interview with Channel 5 that presently it is dangerous for citizens of Ukraine to leave for work in Russia.

“If you went out into the street, the metro, Independence Square station, you will find there a job advertisement offering work as a courier in the Russian Federation. I can tell you that today I have about a hundred people who asked for help because they went to get a job and ended up in jail," the ombudsman said.

Lutkovska noted that Ukrainians should be aware of the risks when they are leaving to work in the Russian Federation.

“It’s obvious that people leave to seek money because of the state’s terrible economy. But this is dangerous if you are traveling to the territory of the Russian Federation. You must understand the risks. Activities to raise awareness must be carried out,” she noted.

Earlier, the head of the SBU (Security Service of Ukraine), Vasyl Hrytsak said that, according to rough estimates, there are about 2 million Ukrainians in Russian territory who went there to work.

He also stressed that the Russian Federation is actively sending its agents to Ukraine. Hrytsak urged Ukrainians not to work in Russia.
