Poltorak: We stopped one of the most powerful armies in Europe
One of the most powerful armies on the continent was stopped by Ukrainian army in the Donbass region, as stated on a briefing earlier today by Stepan Poltorak, Ukrainian Minister of Defense.
"We were able to upgrade our armed forces and their combat effectiveness. In the East we stopped one of the most powerful armies in Europe and stabilized the situation. We have equipped numerous lines of fortifications," - said Poltorak, speaking about the achievements of the Ministry of Defense and the Armed Forces of Ukraine.
Our main priority, according to Poltorak, - the creation of highly professional armed forces of Ukraine.
One of our most important task these days is renovation and re-equipping of our army.
He said that piece is not to be taken for granted, “we must fight for it”
That is why we need to strengthen and equip our armed forces.
“We must realize that before Ukraine is officially accepted into NATO, we will have to work our way to actually be able to join NATO. For this purpose Ukrainian army must fully comply with all the standards of NATO.
This year 100 billion UAH have already been allocated by Ukrainian Ministry of Finance to finance the Ministry of Defense. And we will not cut funding the army, said in turn Arseniy Yatsenyuk, the Prime Minister of Ukraine.
