Former President of Ukraine: The European Union has brought Ukraine to its knees
The European Union has brought Ukraine “to its knees” and considers it as simply a supplier of raw materials. The country needs to unite to facilitate further development rather than walk around the world with an outstretched hand, former Ukrainian President Leonid Kuchma believes. He said this during a speech at the opening of the international forum, reports TV channel 112 Ukraine.
“Our economy has been neglected, we are falling apart! We are becoming a raw material colony. All we have left are metallurgical, chemical, and agricultural industries. Advanced technology is practically non-existent. Where are we going?” Kuchma indignantly said.
He added that Kyiv benefited very little in the area of free trade with the EU.
“What do we trade with Europe? Look at the statistics. Wheat, and as regards agriculture, almost nothing else. And honey. We have used up our quota for the first quarter. And now you see how the Europeans have brought us to our knees: ‘Let’s cut down the forest and bring it here,’” said the former head of state.
According to him, “we shouldn’t have to walk around with an outstretched hand and ask for money.”
“If we don’t come to our senses and start dealing with the problems, and if people don’t have faith in the government and we do not want to all work together, then no forums will help us, and no one will do it for us,” he added.
