    Sweden intends to increase the strength of the Armed Forces by 2035 from current levels of 50,000 troops to future levels of 120,000 troops, as noted in a new report on national defense strategy submitted by the Swedish Armed Forces, reports The Local.

    The document assumes that the overall defense budget will increase from today's 53 billion kronor ($6.5 billion) per annum to about 115 billion kronor ($14 billion) per annum by 2035.

  • Ukrainian President signs decree on measures to counter Russian information aggression

    President Petro Poroshenko has signed a decree to enact a new decision by the National Security and Defense Council (NSDC) that includes additional measures to counter information aggression by Russia.

    Decree No. 25/2018 was published on the President's website on February 9, though the measures were marked “for internal use” and not made public.

    Ukraine has asked the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO) to provide defensive lethal weapons, as stated by the Vice Prime Minister for European and Euro-Atlantic Integration, Ivanna Klympush-Tsintsadze.

    At least 27 civilians are reported to have been killed Wednesday in first Russian airstrikes on Syrian towns near the city of Homs.Earlier today the upper house of the Russian parliament gave President Vladimir Putin approval to use the air force in Syria, according to state media.
